Portman Dental Care is an award-winning group of private dental practices. Born from a unique opportunity, Portman wanted to expand their audience and their offering. This new sister-brand was aimed specifically at an orthodontic audience. Portman wanted to connect with a younger, more image-conscious audience but were keen to maintain a reassuring connection to their existing brand identity.

The new brand required a clear and recognisable position in the marketplace for both industry and consumers. Leaving behind dental cliche and jargon entirely, I set out to focus instead on an individual's personal empowerment in the journey. 

This was a complete brand development journey, including market research tested against designs, colour palettes, messaging, illustration, imagery, and design styles.

I was asked to develop a new brand identity that reflects Portman Dental groups’s visions and values but talks directly to an younger audience seeking orthodontic treatment. Portman’s vision is to be the best privately focused dental group in the world.

The new brand required a clear and recognisable position in the marketplace for both industry and consumers. Leaving behind dental cliche and jargon entirely, I set out to focus instead on an individual's personal empowerment in the journey.

Focusing on an exciting journey and a positive outcome, the art direction was founded firmly in the strategy. A powerful, eye-catching and recognisable style that could be rolled out across multiple deliverables and, crucially, work as well in bricks and mortar practices as it would online.

My goal from the beginning was to challenge the dental norm and set up a website that felt like a high-street eCommerce website – where users could easily understand the product offerings and bet inspired.
This was the central website, so it had to convey a large amount of information and build brand trust. I created a straightforward interface and unique experience. Every patient who lands on the page feels their needs are met at every stage. It’s that perfect balance of supportive and aspirational.
